Plexiglass and Lexan are both plastics with properties suited to different applications:
Because of its impact resistance, Plexiglass is preferred for applications such as signs, aquariums and the protective shielding in hockey arenas. Because it can be bent when carefully heated, it can be used for curved surfaces such as airplane windows and furniture. Plexiglass will burn in high heat.
Lexan’s ability to withstand impact makes it the preferred material for safety lenses and visors, instrument panels and automotive headlamps. Police forces may refer to Lexan as “bullet proof glass,” and use it in safety gear such as riot shields. Some more familiar objects made of Lexan include CDs and DVDs and plastic drink bottles.
Owen Sound Glass Service carries Plexiglass and Lexan in several sizes and thicknesses. Describe your project to us and we will be happy to make a recommendation for great results.
